Southside Park Accessible Playground Groundbreaking Event

Thursday, October 30, 2003, 10:30 a.m., 2115 6th Street

Sacramento, California, October 29, 2003 – The City of Sacramento’s first exceptionally accessible playground will be constructed through the creation of a unique partnership between the City of Sacramento, Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region and United Cerebral Palsy.

The Southside Park Accessible Playground is an integrated and intergenerational-use playground for youngsters with disabilities, non-disabled children, parents, grandparents and caregivers.

Funding for the construction of the Southside Park Accessible Playground is made possible through several sources, including the City of Sacramento, Sutter Health Sierra Sacramento Sierra Region, and Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency.

The placement of the Southside Park Accessible Playground is ideally located, not only because it is situated in a park, but also because of its proximity to a zero entry wading pool and accessible piers. Construction is expected to begin this winter and the grand opening will occur in the spring of 2004.

Speakers at the groundbreaking include Mayor Heather Fargo, Councilmember Jimmie Yee, Sutter Health CEO Van Johnson, United Cerebral Palsy Chairperson Jeff Einhorn and Parks and Recreation Director Robert Overstreet.

The groundbreaking ceremony will occur at Southside Park (west side of park) on Thursday, October 30, 2003, 10:30 a.m.
