Fourteen Miles of Youth Service

AmeriCorps* NCCC Cleans Up Sacramento Northern Bikeway in Celebration of National Youth Service Days – April 17, 2004

Sacramento, California, March 19, 2004 – National Youth Service Day (NYSD) is the largest service event in the world, mobilizing millions of young Americans to identify and address the needs of their communities through service. National Youth Service Day is also an opportunity to support youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educate the public, the media and elected officials about the role of youth as community leaders. In one morning we will clean the entire 14 miles of Sacramento Northern Bike trail from C Street to Rio Linda showing our pride in Sacramento and giving back to the community. Tasks will include: weeding, planting trees, trash pickup, and graffiti removal!

Event Schedule
7:15 AM, Pre-Registration begins, Robla Community Park, 700 Bell Avenue
8:00AM, Meet at Robla Community Park, 700 Bell Avenue
8:25AM, Depart for assigned trail sections, Community volunteers will be assigned to serve with an AmeriCorps*NCCC team.
12:00PM, Wrap it up! Clean up your section and celebrate your accomplishments.
12:30PM, Appreciation BBQ at Robla Community Park for all volunteers

Who’s invited to serve?
Youth and children of all ages! Anyone who believes in community service wants to improve area bikeways and has a desire to see America’s youth in service to their community. That means adults, youth, children - anyone who cares about Sacramento, and wants to have a good time! Grab your work gloves and your friends and come on!
Children under 12 must have a guardian present during the event. Children under 18 must have a parental consent form signed by a legal guardian to participate.

Who is AmeriCorps*NCCC Western Region?
AmeriCorps*NCCC Members spend 10 months serving the nine Western states in over 120 team-based community service projects. Many of those projects happened right here in Sacramento with area nonprofits, schools, community services, and faith based organizations such as Sacramento Food Bank Services, St. HOPE, Fruitridge Elementary Healthy Start, Sacramento Habitat for Humanity, Sacramento Tree Foundation, and City of Sacramento. AmeriCorps*NCCC is part of AmeriCorps, a network of national service programs administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
