Hagginwood Community Center Groundbreaking

Wednesday, September 29, 2004, 10:30 a.m., 3271 Marysville Blvd.

Sacramento, California, September 27, 2004 - Exhaustive studies have shown the enormous benefits parks and community centers bring to neighborhoods. Community pride is strengthened, nearby residents enjoy the serenity of the trees, young children and teens engage in after school programs that help build self-esteem and thwart juvenile delinquency and crime.

When the Hagginwood Community Center was first built in Del Paso Heights back in 1955 the facility was designed to accommodate a community that was just beginning to grow. Much has changed since the community center was first built almost 50 years ago - bringing with it new challenges and needs - playing an important role to serve all of its residents, young and old alike.

In its continued commitment to maintain quality programs, services and facilities the City of Sacramento, working in partnership with the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, allocated funds for the expansion, remodeling and revitalization of the Hagginwood Community Center. The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency is providing $1million and the City of Sacramento allocating $750,000 to the project. In addition, the State of California, under the provisions set forth through Proposition 12, has granted $1.2 million to the expansion project thereby guaranteeing full funding of the project.

All media representatives are invited to attend the historic groundbreaking of the Hagginwood Community Center expansion project on Wednesday, September 29th, 10:30 a.m. Speakers include Mayor Heather Fargo, Vice Mayor Sandy Sheedy SHRA Executive Director Anne Moore and Deputy Director of State Parks and Recreation Sedrick Mitchell.
