Reopening and Dedication Ceremony of the Oak Park Community Center

Thursday, August 26, 2004, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., 3425 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

Sacramento, California, August 26, 2004 – After months of closure the Oak Park Community Center has completed an extensive remodeling and improvement construction project. A reopening and dedication ceremony will take place today at 5:30 p.m. Dignitaries include Mayor Heather Fargo, Councilmember Lauren Hammond, representatives from Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and members of the Oak Park community.

The construction project includes a new weight room with new equipment, new office space, new dance room, new tile and carpet flooring and painting. Additionally, a security system and a new central heating and air conditioning system have been installed, and existing asbestos is being removed.

“Oak Park Community Center is one of the City’s most prized possessions,” said City Councilmember Lauren Hammond. “We know how valuable the Center is to the community just by the shear number of people, both young and old, using the facility on a daily basis. Our youth programs provide a means by which they can be productive, recreate, and help them optimize the experience of living.”

Oak Park Community Center is located near Broadway and Stockton Boulevard, and is accessible from Highway 99 at the 12th Avenue exit.
