Sacramento Teens Holding Homeless Vigil

The vigil will be held on
Friday, May 19, 2006, 6 p.m.,
front steps of the Clunie Community Center
at McKinley Park, 601 Alhambra Blvd.

Sacramento, California, May 18, 2006 – Members of the Sacramento Youth Commission, an advisory group to the Mayor and City Council, will hold a vigil to bring attention to the growing number of homeless teenagers throughout the Sacramento area and the nation.

Each year thousands of teenagers throughout the country are added to the growing number of homeless. The Sacramento Youth Commission, comprised of 20 teenagers from high schools in the City of Sacramento, believe it is imperative that local, state and national officials address the matter of homeless teenagers.

The Sacramento City Youth Commission was established by the Sacramento Mayor and City Council to serve as an advisory group to provide recommendations on youth related issues in Sacramento. The Commission provides youth an opportunity to participate in the policy making process and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, needs and concerns related to youth.
