Community Prepares to Celebrate the Grand Re-opening of a Renovated and Expanded Hagginwood Community Center:
September 30, 2006, 11a.m – 2p.m.

Sacramento, California, September 27, 2006—The renovated and expanded Joe Mims, Jr. Hagginwood Community Center is set to re-open on Saturday, September 30, 2006 with a public ceremony and festive community celebration. The re-opening will re-establish the Center as a valued resource for all members of the community.

Once a 9,700 square foot facility, the Center has now been expanded to 15,623 square feet. Its new and renovated amenities include a lobby, multiple community meeting rooms, reception area, refurbished auditorium, office space, and new restrooms.

The grand re-opening will feature a wide range of festive activities including, children’s games, music, and a complimentary lunch.

Remarks will be delivered by Councilmember Sandy Sheedy; Councilmember Steve Cohn; Sedrick Mitchell, Deputy Director, California Department of Parks and Recreation-External Affairs; Robert G. Overstreet II, Director, Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation; Lisa Bates, Community Development Director, SHRA; Linda Bloom, Administrator, Art in Public Places & Nancy Gotthart, Committee Chair, Art in Public Places; and Jason Sample, Chair, Del Paso Heights Redevelopment Advisory Committee.

The ceremony and celebration are scheduled for September 30, 2006 from 11a.m. to 2p.m. at the Joe Mims, Jr. Hagginwood Community Center, located at 3271 Marysville Boulevard, Sacramento CA 95815. Community members are welcome to attend this free event. Guided tours of the facility will be available at 11:30a.m., 12:30p.m., and 1:30 p.m.
