Sacramento Completes 150th Birthday Celebration With a Splash
November 28, 2000,
Sacramento, California Old Sacramento will be the backdrop for
a spectacular Sky Concert on December 31, 2000. The gala fireworks show,
scheduled from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., will light up the sky over the Sacramento
River and can be viewed from anywhere along the Old Sacramento Waterfront.
The Sky Concert will be simulcast on Capital Public Radio all along the
boardwalk to the promenade, south of the Tower Bridge.
Entertainment will be provided by the Ophir Prison Band
and the Old Sacramento Living History Characters from 8:30 p.m. to 10
p.m.
The usual Old Sacramento weekend street closure plan will be in effect
for New Years Eve. Traffic will not be allowed from 9:30 p.m. until
after the conclusion of the fireworks. Taxis, limousines and hotel shuttles
will be able to access Old Sacramento at 2nd and L streets, but not at
2nd and I streets. City parking lots at both ends of Old Sacramento will
be open.
The New Years Eve Sky Concert is produced by the City of Sacramento
with support from Capital Public Radio, City of West Sacramento, Downtown
Sacramento Partnership, Old Sacramento Management, and the Sacramento
Convention & Visitors Bureau. The event is free to the public.
