Kings to the Rescue at Gardenland Park
Saturday, July 21, 2001, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., 3010 Bowman Avenue

Sacramento, California, July 20, 2001 - Through the efforts of Councilmember Ray Tretheway, the Sacramento Kings' team has come to the rescue to aid and support the beautification of Gardenland Park, which is located in the heart of the Northgate neighborhood. Residents of the neighborhood, members of the Gardenland Neighborhood Association, and staff from the Department of Parks and Recreation will stand alongside Kings' players to clean-up the park and help install new park benches, tables and other amenities, topped-off with a neighborhood picnic compliments of the Sacramento Kings. Registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m.

"We're so grateful to the Sacramento Kings for their support and generosity," said District 1 Councilmember Ray Tretheway. "This effort shows how the community, public agencies, and the private sector can work together to make a difference."

The Operating Engineers Local Union #3 has also stepped to the forefront and provide free services to excavate and remove the remains of an old wading pool from the park. Teichert Construction has kindly donated fill-in dirt to complete the excavation process. The old wading pool has since been replaced with a brand new wading pool right next to the community pool.

Other private sector contributors to this wonderful effort include Pepsi Cola and Avaya Communications who are donating their supplies and services.
