Everyone's Taking a Dive for Polar Experience
Celebrating 150 years of City parks and recreation

Sacramento, California, January 26, 2000 - What's wilder than snow falling in Sacramento during winter? Let's see, how about a few thousand kids bringing their parents to "Polar Experience," where everyone goes swimming in an unheated pool! That's right, an unheated pool in the dead of winter!

Join fellow cold-water enthusiasts at the City of Sacramento's first Polar Bear Day. Water activities include belly flop contests and kayak skills demonstration. Everyone is invited and there is no charge to the public.

Local sports and aquatic businesses will be there to show the latest in sports equipment, hot tubs and water gear; local health care and dental providers will offer free health and dental screenings; as well as fitness demonstrations and nutrition workshops. City Recreation staff will be on hand to share valuable information about the City's 14 swimming pools, swimming lessons, swim team, and employment opportunities this coming summer!

IT'S ALL-FREE! So take the plunge for Polar Experience on Saturday, February 12, 2000, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Grant High School Swimming Pool, 1333 Grand Avenue. For more information, please call (916) 277-6060.
