Renfree Field Grand Re-opening Brings New Life and New Sports Superstars - to be
Wednesday, August 16, 2000, 5:30 p.m., 3565 Auburn Blvd.

Sacramento, August 10, 2000 - Renfree Field is once again the premier baseball field with amateur baseball players throughout the Sacramento region. No other public facility can match the qualities that make this ball field the favorites among players. The majority of players from the Sacramento area that have played or are playing in the Major Leagues have had their beginnings at this facility.

Harry Renfree Field was built in 1968 to provide a premier baseball facility for local youth and adult organizations. It's been 32 years since any remodeling or renovation has occurred at Renfree Field.

"Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the City's Park Maintenance section in the new Department of Parks and Recreation, baseball players have virtually a brand new field, complete with 19,000 square feet of new sod and more than 2 tons of new infield dirt," said District 2 Councilmember Rob Kerth. "To get this field into shape City employees removed more than 600 yards of dirt, the infield was regraded to level, and a whole new irrigation system was installed. What a job!"

Dozens upon dozens of yards of decomposed granite have been added along the infield and at the warning track. The bleachers and backstop have been repainted. Still more dozens of cinder have been installed at the pitcher's mound, home plate and along the baselines.

City Councilmembers, officials and community leaders will gather along with ball players and family members for the grand re-opening of Renfree Field. The media is invited to attend.
