Computer Classes – SeniorNet
Computer classes are offered in eight week sessions, five times annually. Classes generally include multiple offerings of Introduction to Computers, and intermediate and advanced classes. Each eight-week course meets once a week for an hour and a half, and costs $40, with the exception of the Low Vision Zoomtext class, which is free. Instructional manuals and other materials are included.
To enroll in a course, new students are encouraged to first attend an Orientation and Registration session, which is held five times a year. To receive information for upcoming sessions by mail, ask at the reception desk to be put on our SeniorNet mailing lists. You may visit our website, www.hartcomputerclass.org, and access a schedule of our current classes or sign-up online to receive our computer class information by email. Free weekly Question & Practice Lab sessions are available to students currently enrolled in computer classes. The sign up sheet can be located at the clip board located at the reception desk. Students are asked to sign-up in advance.
Generations Online
Generations Online (GOL) is a self-guided computer available in the lobby Monday through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The computer is available in half-hour increments and visitors can access the internet, send email, practice their skills, play online games, and more. No printing capabilities. Simple usage agreement required. Please sign up at the reception desk. Free.
Digital Camera Class
Meets Thursdays. Instructors are Don Taggart, Lance Taggart, and Bob Rice. $20 for 8 sessions. Make sure your batteries are charged and bring your instruction book and camera to class. Learn how to take close up, scenic and action shots. Local walking field trips. Call to inquire about class availability.
Driver Safety Program
AARP provides a refresher driving course for seniors. Instruction covers handling adverse driving conditions such as those caused by weather and traffic hazards, and the effects of aging and medications on driving. Your auto insurance premiums may be reduced upon successful completion of the course. Great Books Program
Great Books will meet the 4th Monday of each month, usually with the exception of July and August. Cost is $26 for materials. The group provides people with an opportunity to read, discuss, and think about some of life’s most interesting challenges, using great works of literature such as the Bible, Shakespeare’s plays, and economic and political essays. A list of scheduled reading is available.
Senior Legal Hotline- Legal Workshops for Seniors
The Ethel Hart Center is proud to sponsor monthly workshops featuring current topics related to seniors and legal issues presented by Senior Legal Hotline. Examples of current topics include: reverse mortgages, fraud prevention and senior scams, foreclosures, and pensions. The workshops are held every 4th Thursday of the month and start at 1pm. Please call or visit the reception desk to inquire about this month’s workshop topic. Free!
Special Educational Seminars
We love to host educational seminars whenever possible to promote safety, financial assistance and supportive services for the older clients we serve. Examples of current topics include: Phone Bill Workshop and Clinic, Managing Paper Clutter, How to Talk to Your Doctor, Sleep and Senior Health, and Fall Prevention.
