Seasonal Aquatics Employment

ALL AQUATICS POSITIONS ARE FILLED FOR THE SUMMER.
The City of Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation Aquatics Section is dedicated to providing safe, fun, educational, water-related experiences for people of all ages.

The City of Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation Aquatics section is the second largest provider of outdoor swimming programs in California. This premier program offers a wide variety of programs for fitness, recreation and instructional swimming, specialty programs competitive programs and certification programs.

We invite applications from professional individuals who can demonstrate they have what it takes to join the prestigious ranks of Sacramento’s aquatics team! Each year we typically hire between 150 and 200 seasonal staff for the following positions: Pool Manager, Assistant Manager, Management Senior Lifeguard, Senior Lifeguard, Lifeguard and Cashier.

POOL MANAGER:

Oversees an assigned aquatic facility by scheduling work, supervising employees, aquatic programs, maintaining the building, grounds, equipment and aquatic programs. Supervises, trains, and evaluates subordinate staff; maintains superior guest relations; completes mandatory paperwork which includes accident reports, daily and weekly timesheets. Pool Manager also provides, oversees and maintains a comprehensive aquatics program which may include swim lessons, recreational swim, swim team, lap swim, water aerobics, Jr. Guard, pool rentals, etc. Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned. Pool Manager may also act as swim lesson coordinator, water aerobics instructor, and swim meet director. Knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform swimming rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follow oral and written instructions. Pool Managers will be held responsible for all staff and programming at their assigned facility.
Employment Standards: Must be 19 years of age. Two years of experience managing and or assisting in the management of an aquatic facility. Be currently certified in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and Title 22 are desirable. Applicants selected will be screened with a physical exam, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.
Salary: $13.45 - $14.69 per hour

ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, assist in the oversight of an assigned aquatic facility by working with the Pool Manager in scheduling and supervising employees, maintaining the building, grounds, equipment and aquatic programs. May oversee a particular aquatics program such as swim lessons or swim team. Performs job as a lifeguard while scheduled with pool manager. Assistant Pool Manager may act as Manager in the absence of the Pool Manager, swim lesson coordinator, water aerobics instructor and/or swim meet director. Performs daily maintenance activities as assigned. Knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform water rescues, CPR and First Aid. Supervise the pool, water, decks and surrounding areas of an aquatic facility.
Employment Standards: Must be 18 years of age. Two years experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard/swim instructor. Be currently certified in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and Title 22 are desirable. Applicants selected will be screened with a physical exam, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.
Salary: $12.30 - $13.44 per hour

MANAGEMENT SENIOR LIFEGUARD:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, assist in the oversight of an assigned aquatics facility by working with Pool Management in supervising employees, maintaining the building, grounds, equipment and aquatic programs. Enforce rules and regulations, prevent accidents, perform swimming rescues and first aid, instruct and supervise aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and other aquatics programs. Management Senior Guard may act as swim lesson coordinator, water aerobics instructor, and/or swim team coach. May act as Manager in the absence of the Pool Manager or Assistant Pool Manager. Must have knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform swimming rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follow oral and written instructions.
Employment Standards: Must be at least 17 years of age at the time of appointment. More than one year experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard/swim instructor. Currently certified in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid. Title 22 is desirable. Applicants selected will be screened with a physical examination, fingerprints, and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.
Salary: $12.22 - $12.82 per hour

SENIOR LIFEGUARD:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, supervise the pool, decks and surrounding areas of an aquatic facility. Enforce rules and regulations, prevent accidents, perform water rescues and first aid, instruct and supervise aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform swimming rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follow oral and written instructions.
Employment Standards: Must be 16 years of age at the time of appointment. One year experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard/swim instructor. Be currently certified in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid, Title 22 is desirable. Applicants selected will be screened with a physical examination, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.
Salary: $11.08 - $11.64 per hour

LIFEGUARD:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, supervise the pool, decks and surrounding areas of an aquatic facility. Enforce rules and regulations, prevent accidents, perform swimming rescues and first aid, instruct and supervise aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and swim team.
Employment Standards: Must be at least 16 years of age. Be currently certified in Lifeguard training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. Applicants selected will be screened with a physical exam and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.
Salary: $10.12 - $10.62 per hour

CASHIER:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, cash handling position with oversight of office at assigned aquatic facility. Responsible for collection of pool admission fees, completing daily paperwork and maintaining order in the office area. Assists safety staff in emergency situations. Superior guest service and basic math skills are essential. Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned.
Employment Standards: Must be at least 17 years of age. The ability to operate a cash register, make change, and complete daily reports and paperwork. Establish and maintain effective relationships with the public and other employees.
Salary: $9.09 - $10.02 per hour
