Block Party Permits
Need more information? Call (916) 808-8459 or email specialeventservices@cityofsacramento.org
Neighborhood events, such as block parties, provide neighbors
a unique opportunity to gather and create a network
of friends rather than mere acquaintances. In order to assure the success
of your Neighborhood Block Party, the City of Sacramento has established the following
policy:
- Neighborhood Block Parties may not be advertised outside of the affected area and
are intended for residents only. A petition signed by 80% of affected
residents is required as part of the Neighborhood Block Party application process.
- Only readily removable barricades may be used for street closures,
and a 20-ft lane of clearance is required for emergency vehicle access
at all times. The applicant is responsible for acquiring barricades
for a street closure; the City of Sacramento does not provide barricades. Consult the yellow pages of your telephone directory
under barricades for rental information.
- A non-refundable $20 permit processing fee is required at the time
the application is submitted to the City of Sacramento. Reservations
may be made a maximum of 1 year in advance and must be made a minimum
of 20 business days in advance. Reservations made less than 20 business
days in advance are subject to late fees of $5 per day. Applications
will not be accepted fewer than seven (7) business days prior to the proposed
neighborhood block party date.
- A copy of photo identification (California Driver's license or I.D.
card) of the applicant will be required to
complete the application process. Applicant must be 18 yeard of age or older.
- Please ensure approval of your Neighborhood Block Party Application
by the City before you announce your activity. Acceptance of your Neighborhood Block
Party Application by the City is neither a guarantee of the date or
location nor an automatic approval of your activity. The applicant must
complete the application requirements entirely before the City will
issue a Neighborhood Block Party Permit.
A street can be closed for a neighborhood block party
if it meets the following qualifications:
- The street is a cul-de-sac, dead end, or circular street
- The section being closed is less than a mile in length and is intersected
by two other residential streets.
A street cannot be closed if one (1) or more of the following
conditions exist:
- Speed limit on street is greater than 25mph;
- Street is an arterial street with more than two (2) lanes;
- Street has a bus stop.
