A Message from the Director of Planning

Our Planning Department is committed to making decisions and taking actions today that will make Sacramento the most livable city in America tomorrow.

We want every citizen in Sacramento to know where they belong, feel safe and fulfilled in their neighborhood, and love their city. We want to build complete neighborhoods that meet all our citizens' needs and we want to fill the gaps in our existing neighborhoods. We want to be ready for future development.

Mission Statement

Through quality relationships with all stakeholders, the Planning Department will direct public and private development consistent with the Vision of the City, will finance and build necessary public improvements to be ready for private development, and will encourage community participation in the City's planning process.

What we do:

• Prepare and Advance the General Plan, including Community Plans, as the Vision to Build a Great City
• Coordinate all Long Range Planning Efforts in the City
• Fund and Build Necessary Public Improvements for Prioritized Development Areas
• Divisions include:
  • Long Range Planning
  • New Growth
  • Infill
  • Public Improvement Financing
