The Planning Academy is a ten-week course designed to educate and engage citizens in the City’s planning process. As part of the City’s Smart Growth Implementation Strategy, the objective is to assist participants in becoming more effective and informed advocates for Smart Growth in future City of Sacramento planning efforts.
Sessions are designed to include discussion, presentations, Q&A, interactive group exercises, and field trips. Presenters/speakers include City staff , local architects and planning professionals, elected officials, and building industry leaders.

Due to budget constraints, the Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 Planning Academy courses have been cancelled. Please check back for information about future Planning Academy sessions. It is not known when the next session will be held.
Each class will be limited to approximately 25 participants. The Long-Range Planning Division will make applications available prior to the beginning of the next session. Participants should be willing to devote ten weekday evenings and two Saturday mornings over a period of ten weeks. Participants who finish the ten-week course will participate in a graduate reception with the City Council and the Mayor.
