Long-Range Planning
The Long-Range Planning Section plans for the future growth, development, and prosperity of Sacramento. Long-Range Planning works with local residents, neighborhood and business groups, developers, and other community stakeholders to help the City achieve its goal to become the most livable city in America by:
- Making great places
- Growing smarter
- Maintaining a vibrant economy
- Creating a healthy city
- Reducing our carbon footprint
- Developing a sustainable future
Examples of Long-Range Planning activities include:
- Updating and implementing Sacramento's General Plan, which guides future land uses and development in the city.
- Updating the Housing Element of the General Plan. State Housing Element law (Government Code Sections 65580-65589.8) requires each local government to review and update the Housing Element of its General Plan at least every five years.
- Preparing and updating Community Plans for different areas of the city.
- Preparing Strategic Neighborhood Action Plans (SNAPs) to help neighborhood residents revitalize their neighborhoods.
- Preparing plans for specific opportunity areas within the city. These plans may focus on economic or employment development, neighborhood design or enhancement, transit, mixed uses, or a combination of these.
- Participating in regional planning forums.
