Gateway Master Plan

Summary

The Gateway Streetscape Master Plan (Master Plan) which will provide a comprehensive guide to direct streetscape and infrastructure development and circulation planning for pedestrians, bicycles, transit, and automobiles within the existing right-of-way, and create design guidelines that will encourage attractive and well-designed development in the Gateway Area. The Gateway District boundaries are generally the triangular area formed by North 12th Street to the west, North 16th Street to the east, and the heavy rail lines south of A Street to the south.

Streetscape Master Plan components will be developed through community participation and input from involved agencies, business organizations, neighborhood organizations, and property owners. The discussions center around providing streetscape infrastructure that accommodates multiple modes of transportation with a focus on pedestrian circulation. The Master Plan will not make recommendations concerning the alteration of zoning or land uses in the area. The final Master Plan will be presented to the City of Sacramento City Council for acceptance prior to completion. Funding is available for this project through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

A related project is the Richards Urban Design Plan that includes the entire Richards Boulevard Planning Area.

The City Department of Transportation is the lead department for the streetscape project.
