The City of Sacramento provides technical assistance and enforcement of state and local laws regarding garbage, mixed recycling and organic recycling for both commercial properties and waste haulers. All commercial properties are serviced by commercial haulers, not by the City of Sacramento.
Commercial properties include businesses, non-profits, schools, governments, and multi-family apartment buildings that have five or more units. Some mixed-use properties, which have both residential and business activities in the same building, may also have commercial waste services.
Commercial solid waste haulers are required to hold a current City of Sacramento franchise to conduct hauling within the city limits. Commercial properties can contract with one of several franchised haulers for the mandated services of garbage, mixed recycling and organic recycling.
