Holidays denoted with * were approved as Free Meter Holidays effective January 2019. Parking citations issued on these holidays prior to January 2019 are valid as they were not approved meter holidays at the time of issuance.

  • New Year Day (January 1st)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday (Third Monday of January) *
  • Washington's Birthday and President's Day (Third Monday of February) *
  • Cesar Chavez Day (March 31st) *
  • Memorial Day (Last Monday of May)
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day (November 11th)*
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If any of the holidays listed above fall on Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday. Meters in Old Sacramento require payment every day, including Sunday. Therefore, meters in Old Sacramento will still require payment if the holiday falls on a Sunday and will be free on the Monday that follows.

enforcement on meter holidays

Meter holidays are exemptions from meter payments. All other parking regulations, including posted regulations prohibiting parking during specific days and times for Street Services, "No Parking Any Time" and spaces with time limits  are independent of meter holidays and will still be enforced.
