Redistricting 2011The final map approved by the City Council on September 6, 2011 will be in effect October 6, 2011.View New Council District MapsEvery 10 years following the U.S. Census, the City of Sacramento is required to redraw the District boundaries to balance the population among 8 Council Districts. This process of balancing population is referred to as redistricting. The 2010 Census total population for the City of Sacramento is 466,488. In order to balance the population among the 8 Council Districts, the target population we are aiming for is 58,311 people per Council District. In January of this year, the Sacramento City Council approved a participatory process that included community outreach, education, and the development tools and data to engage the community in redistricting. In February Council further defined this process by establishing the Sacramento Redistricting Citizens Advisory Committee (SRCAC). The SRCAC began meeting in April 2011 and completed over 26 hours of discussion and testimony to provide their recommendations to the Council. Since July, the council has devoted approximately 20 hours to public meetings and concluded with the adoption of the new council district boundaries below.
