GEOGRAPHY
Yongsan-gu is located in the center of Seoul, the capital of Korea, on the north side of the Han River.
HISTORY
Since the 17th century merchants and tradesmen have conducted business around the Han River. After being destroyed by the Korean War in 1950, Yongsan-gu was rebuilt as a prosperous metropolitan city. United States military facilities are located in Yongsan-gu.
EDUCATION
Yongsan-gu is home to the world-renowned Sookmyung Women’s University and the Dongguk University.
INDUSTRIES
Yongsan Electronics Complex is the largest distributor of electrical products in Korea. Wholesale markets, department and retail stores are located in the Itaewon Shopping Area where clothing, footwear, ceramics, and souvenirs are sold.
TOURISM
Within Yongsan-gu is the Seoul Tower, the third highest tower in the world, the War Memorial Center, the National Museum of Korea, and the Itaewon Special Tourism Zone. |
CLIMATE
Yongsan-gu is in the Temperate Zone and has four distinct seasons, including the Monsoon season beginning in June or early July. The yearly average temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yongsan-gu is an important traffic center with convenient public transportation by railroad and subway, supplemented with buses and taxis.
