In partnership with Mayor Kevin Johnson’s office, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood visited the site of the Railyards project, Thursday, Feb. 9, to discuss the recent significant investments made in infrastructure. During a press event Ray LaHood, along with Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and Mayor Kevin Johnson spoke shortly on the importance of the railyards, high speed rail and infrastructure. The event was attended by some 100 invitees, along with news media.

Councilmembers Steve Cohn, Jay Schenirer, Angelique Ashby are seen along with City Manager John Shirey, and Railyards Project Manager Fran Halbakken.
Secretary LaHood’s visit comes on the heels of President Obama’s call for investments in transportation as part of “an America Built to Last” in his State of the Union address. The stop in Sacramento was a part of LaHood's tour of California, as well as the nation.

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steingberg, Mayor Kevin Johnson and Secretary Ray LaHood are seen among several engineers involved with the Railyards, just after the press event.
