Sacramento highlighted in statewide campaign

Sacramento is the most recent city profiled in a campaign to promote success stories from cities across the state. Dubbed the “Stronger Cities | Strong State” campaign, hosted by the League of California Cities, Sacramento is one of more than 90 cities profiled thus far. Highlights of Sacramento’s profile include the following:
• The unique development opportunity presented by the 240-acre Railyards site and the 65-acre riverfront Township 9 project
• The vibrant and diverse midtown nightlife that the city has to offer

“Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?” That’s right, you guessed it, we’re talking about the television program, “COPS.” Producers are coming back to Sacramento this summer. We expect them to be filming multiple days in June and July. “COPS” filmed in Sacramento back in 2008 and Sac PD is looking forward to working with them again. You can view current episodes of the program here. Sacramento episodes will likely air later in the fall.
Hundreds attend, 73 brave enough to jump in

The first annual Department of Parks and Recreation Polar Bear Plunge was held Jan.7 at the unheated, chilly, Clunie Pool at McKinley Park. Other activities included a polar bear costume contest & cubs craft corner for kids.
The first-time event was intended to raise money to keep the City’s swimming pools open. In an exciting related development, Save Mart Supermarkets are expected to announce a fund raising campaign for Sacramento swimming pools on Tuesday, Feb. 14, to match donations.
Save Mart hopes to raise $1 million by matching donations, which would potentially keep some or all of our pools open this coming summer. Stay tuned for more information and how you can support it.
Principal commends City employees, Councilmember Darrell Fong for annual event

Prairie Elementary School Principal extended her “heartfelt thanks” to the dozens of City Department of Transportation Staff and Councilmember Darrell Fong’s office for throwing a free holiday event for some 1,000 children at the school. Read the thank you letter from Principal Fawzia Keval.
About 1000 children, teachers and parents attended the event. In addition to a visit and picture with Santa and refreshments, the event included a magician, face-painting, ornament decorating and drawings for bikes and other prizes.
The event is organized and staffed by City employees who volunteer their time. It's funded by employees who raise $500 through fundraisers held year-round, and a matching donation from Councilmember Fong’s office.

This year marks the 15th holiday celebration that City employees have thrown for elementary school children, with the event held in a different City Council district each year.
