Disabled Placard Abuse Prevention

What is Sacramento Task Force On Placard Abuse (STOP) Program?

Disabled placard enforcement increases beginning April 1...(click here to read more)

The City of Sacramento, like other California cities, has been experiencing an accelerated use of disabled parking placards on City streets. To help reduce the misuse of disabled placards, City of Sacramento Parking Enforcement Division requested the City Council authorization to issue misdemeanor citations for misuse of disabled placards.

How Does the Disabled Parking Abuse Program Work?

The California Vehicle Code provides special parking privileges for persons with disabilities. Vehicles that display the proper disabled placard or license plates are allowed to park for unlimited periods. 1

1 Adjacent to a blue curb, green curb, a zone displaying the international symbol of access (wheelchair symbol), at an on-street parking meter at no charge, and in any residential permit parking area. 2

2 Parking not permitted in any red zone, white zone (passenger loading and unloading) and yellow zone (commercial loading zone).

To help reduce the misuse of disabled placards, the Sacramento Task Force On Placard Abuse was formed on November 12, 1996.

The purpose of the Sacramento Task Force is to reduce the abuse of Disable placards and to make available parking spaces for both the disabled and downtown shoppers.

The Sacramento Task Force consists of Parking Enforcement Officers trained specifically to investigate complaints on disabled placard abuse and to issue misdemeanor citations of the California Vehicle Code when necessary.
