Sidewalks
Within the City of Sacramento there are approximately
2,300 miles of sidewalk. Sidewalk maintenance is
the responsibility of the homeowner except when the
following exist:
- utility cuts (water, sewer, etc.)
- round corner
at intersecting streets
- curb ramps
- double frontage
- City work (i.e., garbage pickup,
tree services) has damaged the sidewalk.
- repairs
within the sidewalk area (pullboxes, public utility
boxes, etc.)
Citizens can call (916) 808-1888 to request a sidewalk
or driveway approach inspection in the front of property,
free of charge, by a City inspector. The inspector
will mark off the area to be repaired and estimate
the cost of the repair. The homeowner then has the
choice of doing the work themselves, hiring a licensed
contractor or requesting the City do the repairs
and then be billed.
A Sidewalk Repair Specifications sheet will be included,
giving all information needed to repair a sidewalk
according to the Sacramento City Code. When the sidewalk
is completed, a City inspector must inspect it.
When a sidewalk or driveway approach is completed
by a contractor, it is advised that the property
owner observe the area for the next 24 hours to prevent
vandalism, graffiti, dogs, young children, etc. in
the area until the cement has dried.
The City shall not be responsible for any damage
resulting directly or indirectly from any repair
or other work performed by the property owner or
by any person/contractor hired by the property owner.
If the tree roots are the cause of the damaged sidewalk,
call Tree Service at (916) 808-6345 after the sidewalk
has been removed and roots exposed. A City Arborist
will make recommendations on cutting the tree roots.
The City is now in the process of completing many
requests for sidewalk repair and is diligently fine
tuning our system to ensure work is done in the order
in which requests are received. Currently there are
six full time inspectors taking care of approximately
2,300 miles of City sidewalks.
Curbs and Gutters
Curb and gutter maintenance is the responsibility
of the City of Sacramento.
