Garden Refuse and Street Sweeping

The Solid Waste Division provides garden refuse and street sweeping service to more than 124,000 households. The City collects 90,000 tons of garden refuse annually and sweeps more than 25,000 miles of public right-of-way every month.

Please follow these guidelines for Garden Refuse Collection:

  • Place garden refuse material at curb by 6:00 AM.
  • Place garden refuse material at least six feet from cars, utility poles, mailboxes, boats, trash and recycling containers, and other obstructions.
  • Please do not place more than two cubic yards of material on the street for collection each week (the pile must be smaller than 3'x3'x6')
  • Make sure gardeners know the collection schedule and follow it.
  • Prune trees and shrubs so that they do not block City equipment form collecting garden refuse.
  • Refrain from pruning during leaf season.

Leaf Season: Due to the increase in green waste, City crews may be off schedule during leaf season (October through December). Call 808-4828 for a schedule update.
