South Sacramento Floodplain Remap
The City of Sacramento, the County of Sacramento, the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, the State Department of Water Resources, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have recently completed work to the Sacramento River and Morrison Creek levees. This work has resulted in the FEMA re-mapping of the South Sacramento Floodplain.
Residents in South Sacramento now can qualify for lower cost Preferred Risk Flood Insurance Policies (PRP). These policies typically cost approximately $355 per year ($365 after January 1, 2011) and cover both contents (up to $100,000) and structure (up to $250,000).
To convert your policy to a PRP, you will need to provide a copy of the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and a copy of the Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) to your insurance agent. Copies of the FIRMs for South Sacramento and the Letter of Map Revision are located below.
As of November 15, 2010, another 1,100 homes west of Morrison Creek were removed from the Special Flood Hazard Area and qualify for Preferred Risk Policies (PRPs)
