Be Flood Ready!

Welcome to the City of Sacramento Department Of Utilities' Be Flood Ready Web Site. Please use this information to help you and your family prepare for a flooding emergency.

Sacramento is part of a natural floodplain and uses levees and sophisticated drainage systems to protect the City from the waters of American and Sacramento Rivers and local creeks and streams.

While a 100-year level of protection protects much of Sacramento, there is still a 1-in-100 chance each year that the City will experience flooding. That means that there is a 26% chance in the course of 30-year mortgage that your home will be flooded. We continue to work with Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA) and our legislators to increase our flood protection.

It is important to make sure that your home and family are protected. The City works hard as your floodplain managers to create tools How City Prepares to be used by Fire, Police and Emergency Services that will help them to evacuate and rescue residents throughout the City should flooding occur. Additionally, the City publishes "Be Flood Ready" and sends it to all residents that explains the City's flood risks, flood insurance and how to make sure that your family and home is flood ready.
