Commercial Garden Refuse and Street Sweeping
The Department of Utilities Solid Services provides garden refuse and street sweeping service to more than 114,000 accounts. The City collects 90,000 tons of garden refuse annually and sweeps more than 25,000 miles of public right-of-way every month.
For non-residential customers, garden refuse collection is an optional service. To find out more about this service or to sign-up for service, please contact us at (916) 808-4937.
Please follow these guidelines for Non-Residential Garden Refuse Collection:
Place garden refuse material at curb by 6:00 AM.
Place garden refuse material or container at least six feet from cars, utility poles, mailboxes, boats, trash and recycling containers, and other obstructions.
For loose-in-the-street collection, please do not place more than two cubic yards of material on the street for collection each week (the pile must be smaller than 3'x3'x6')
Make sure gardeners know the collection schedule, how to place your container or pile and follow the guidelines.
Prune trees and shrubs so that they do not block City equipment form collecting garden refuse.
Refrain from pruning during leaf season.
Leaf Season: Due to the increase in green waste, City crews may be off schedule during leaf season (October through December). Call 808-5454 for a schedule update.
Street sweeping is a monthly service for all customers .
Please follow these guidelines for Street Sweeping Service:
Do not park vehicles, boats, or trailers on the street on the scheduled street sweeping day.
Do not leave basketball hoops on the street on the scheduled street sweeping day.
Do not place garden refuse on the street on the scheduled street sweeping day.
Do not leave trash or recycling containers on the street on the scheduled street sweeping day.
Prune trees and shrubs so that they do not block City equipment from providing street sweeping service.
Prune trees and shrubs back from fire hydrants.
