Holiday Recycling
Giving to the Earth is easy!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
It is easy to have a "greener" holiday. Just keep the 3R's in mind as you plan and clean-up this holiday season.
Reduce
- Consider giving gifts that don't require a bow or wrapping, such as an experience or donation. Many local venues, such as the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town, have wonderful holiday experiences to share with your family. Experiences don't have to be wrapped and cannot be thown out later or returned!
Reuse
- Reuse gift bags, gift tags, wrapping, boxes, ribbons or bows from last year. Remember to collect them again when unwrapping gifts to use them again next year.
Recycle
- Remember! Many holiday items can be recycled, such as:
- Wrapping paper
- Greeting cards
- Bottles
- Cans
- Catalog
Tip: Put a bag or bin out to collect recyclables while opening presents or during holiday parties
- Recycle excess cooking Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) that can clog sewer lines. When done cooking, place the cooled FOG into a jug and take to the Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station at 8491 Fruitridge Road.
- Christmas trees can be recycled too! Click here for more information about how and when to put your tree out for recycling.
