Grasscycling
Steps to Successful Grasscycling
The key to successful grasscycling is to leave shorter clippings on the lawn. Shorter clippings decompose quickly and will not cover up the grass surface. No matter what type of equipment you use, follow these basic steps:
- Mow when your grass is dry and no more than three to four inches tall.
- Cut off only the top one-third of the grass blade.
- Leave the clippings on the lawn.
- Mow more often during the growing season (about every five days).
- Make sure your mower blade is sharp.
- Avoid over-fertilizing. Your lawn should require 15-20% less fertilizer when you are grasscycling.
- Don't over water. Most lawns need about one inch of water every five to seven days in the growing season.
Use existing manual or power mowers or purchase a mulching mower.
