Water Meters - Comparative Billing

Comparative billing enables customers to see how their flat rate measures up to the metered rate.

After a water meter is installed, it will be read every month. The reading will be converted into the metered rate and will be listed on your City of Sacramento Utility Bill. It will be compared to your current flat rate. With comparative billing, customers will be able to determine the impact, if any, metered rates will have on their water bills, as well as take any steps to lessen that impact, such as incorporating water conservation tactics or installing water saving devices in their home.

The City of Sacramento is required to charge a metered rate to all homes with a water meter by January 2010. Homes who receive their water meter after that date will have one year comparative billing. During your comparative billing period, you are only responsible for paying the flat rate.
