Please call (916) 558-3912 for a last minute event update in case of uncertain weather.

Old Sacramento will be the backdrop for a spectacular free Sky Concert on December 31, 2000, including two fireworks displays. The first gala fireworks show, scheduled from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., will be set off from Old Sacramento's Waterfront Park over the Sacramento River and can be viewed from anywhere along the Old Sacramento Waterfront. The Sky Concert simulcast on Capital Public Radio will be piped into speakers all along the boardwalk to the promenade, south of the Tower Bridge. Those attending the "A Capital New Year" Celebration of the Arts at the California State Railroad Museum will be able to exit, then reenter, the building to view the spectacular fireworks display.

At midnight, a encore fireworks event will officially usher in the new year.

The 10 p.m. simulcast will be broadcast on 90.9 KXPR (Sacramento), 91.7 KXSR (Groveland/Central Sierra), 90.5 KKTO (Tahoe City), and 91.3 KUOP (Stockton). The music selections are: Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man", Mendelssohn's "Midsummer Night's Dream", Bach's "Brandenburg Concertos", and Ravel's "Bolero". The medley concludes in rousing style with the final portions of Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite".
