The Governor's mansion is an elegant, 30-room Victorian mansion and National Historic Landmark. Built at 1526 I Street in 1877 by prominent Sacramento hardware merchant Albert Gallatin, it served as the California governor's residence until the mid-1960s. Tour guides offer an in-depth look at the mansion's many rooms, while relating stories about the 13 governors who lived here. Many furnishings remain from past first families, including Governor Pardee's 1902 Steinway piano and the velvet chairs and sofas of Governor Johnson. The 100-year-old red velvet drapes still hang in the windows above persian rugs, French mirrors and Italian marble fireplaces. Guided tours are held daily on the hour, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Please call (916) 323-3047 for more information.
