City Elections

Welcome to the City of Sacramento Municipal Election page. The following information is provided to guide voters and potential candidates through the election process.

2022 Muncipal Election 

A run-off municipal election will be held on November 8, 2022, for the offices of Council District 1, Council District 3, and Council District 5. There was one candidate for Council District 7 and Councilmember Rick Jennings was re-elected on June 7, 2022. The nomination closed on March 11, 2022. Councilmembers will be sworn into office on December 13, 2022.

2024 Municipal Election

A municipal primary election will be held on March 23, 2024, for the offices of Council District 2, Council District 4, Council District 6, Council District 8, and Mayor. If needed, a run-off election will be held November 5, 2024. Councilmembers will be sworn into office at the last regularly scheduled meeting in December 2024.

Local Campaign Finance Regulations

The City of Sacramento has adopted local campaign finance regulations. These regulations provide for public campaign financing (also referred to as matching funds), restrict spending and place limits on contributions.

Due to budget constraints, the Campaign Reform Fund was not funded for 2018. Therefore public financing is not available. However, provisions pertaining to contribution limits remain in effect. For detailed information please visit the Campaign Finance page.
