The 2019 California Building Codes will take effect on January 1, 2020!

In July, the new 2019 California Building Standards Code was published and will take effect on January 1, 2020.  The Building Division has outlined the key deadlines, 2019 Code Change Summary and some useful tools to help you navigate through this change.

 

Upcoming Public Counter Closures

The Public Counter will be closed on the following dates: December 24, 25, & 31 as well as January 1, 2020.

Notice: the Central City Impact Fee will be adjusting from the initial economic incentive rate (25% of the fee) to the second step of incentive rate (50% of the fee) on building permits applied for after 12/31/2019 pursuant to Resolution 2019-0407.

Safety Inspections are now available online!

Are you in need of an electrical or gas plumbing safety inspection to restore services to your building? SMUD and PG&E Safety Inspection Requests can now be obtained completely online through our Citizen Portal with a basic account.

New Inspection Summary Report is now at your fingertips!

We are happy to offer a simple and convenient way to view your pending and past building inspections, their statuses and your building inspector’s contact information.

Reduced Rates for Affordable Dwelling Units

Building Permit Applications for new regulated affordable dwelling units submitted on or after December 31, 2018 may qualify for reduced residential development impact fees rates.  

Is your building project valuation $1M or greater? Your building permit application now must be submitted through our Electronic Plan Check (EPC) Program. A dedicated Project Manager will also guide you through the entire process.

The Electronic Plan Check Program has Expanded! You can now submit electronically for Residential Projects and Residential Subdivisions in addition to Commercial Projects. For details, visit our Electronic Plan Check page.
