At this time field inspection services will be conducted remotely. Inspections are to be scheduled as normal.  On the day of your inspection, your inspector will contact you by phone to set up a remote inspection. Please review these instructions to be prepared for your remote inspection.

If you have questions, you can contact your inspector directly or you can visit our Inspection Summary page for up-to-date information on scheduled inspections, your inspector's name and cell phone number.

We inspect buildings for compliance with code requirements and scope of work in accordance with building permits. All construction work that requires a building permit must be inspected and remain accessible and exposed for inspection until approved by the inspector. The permit must be on site at all times throughout the construction/modification phase. A set of City-approved plans (stamped "APPROVED") are required to be on site for each inspection.

We also offer SMUD and PG&E safety inspections for buildings or tenant spaces to review existing, currently inactive, electrical or gas systems for code compliance. These safety inspections do not authorize any work. If repairs are required, a separate permit must be obtained prior to commencement of work. Safety inspections include one inspection only per discipline (gas plumbing and/or electrical). Visit our SMUD and PG&E Safety Inspection Requests page to learn how to make these requests online.

You can schedule an inspection a number of ways that are most convenient for you. Visit the "scheduling an inspection" page to learn more.

You can also track your inspections by utilizing our Inspection Summary Report. Simply enter your permit number in the search field to view your pending and completed inspections, the result of those inspections as well as your inspector’s name and cellphone number.
