Scheduling an Inspection

At this time field inspection services will be conducted remotely. Inspections are to be scheduled as normal.  On the day of your inspection, your inspector will contact you by phone to set up a remote inspection. Please review these instructions to be prepared for your remote inspection.

If you have questions, you can contact your inspector directly or you can visit our Inspection Summary page for up-to-date information on scheduled inspections, your inspector's name and cell phone number.

It is the property owner's responsibility to make sure that all required inspections are made on a project, including both in-progress inspections and the final inspection. The contractor, however, may schedule the inspections and be the one on-site for each one.

Inspection requests can be made 24 hours a day. Requests made before 6:00 p.m. will be scheduled for the following work day. Requests made after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends or holidays will be scheduled two working days later.

After hours construction work request:

Construction work may only commence Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In case of urgent necessity and in the interest of public health and welfare the Chief Building Official may permit work to be done outside of these hours for a period not to exceed three days (Sacramento City Code 8.68.080). Application for this exemption may be made in conjunction with the building permit application or during construction. To make a request for after hours construction work download our template here.

Re-inspections and Correction Notices

If permit work does not pass inspection the first time, a re-inspection is necessary. As part of the inspection, applicants receive a correction notice from the inspector. Once those corrections have been made, the customer must reschedule an inspection. A  re-inspection fee and other charges for the new scope of the permit would be required.

SMUD and PG&E Safety Inspection Requests

Safety Inspections authorize one inspection per discipline (gas plumbing and/or electrical). If inspectors are unable to access the property, including the interior, to perform this inspection, a new safety inspection request must be obtained. If the safety inspection result is failed, a separate building permit is required prior to commencement of repair work and scheduling additional inspections.
