AFTER-HOUR CONSTRUCTION WORK REQUEST

Construction work may only commence Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In case of urgent necessity and in the interest of public health and welfare the Chief Building Official may permit work to be done outside of these hours for a period not to exceed three days (Sacramento City Code 8.68.080). Application for this exemption may be made in conjunction with the building permit application or during construction. To make a request for after hours construction work download our template here.

RE-INSPECTIONS AND CORRECTION NOTICES

If an applicant receives a correction notice during an inspection, a re-inspection of the work is required. Once the corrections have been made and the re-inspection fee paid, the customer can reschedule the inspection. Note: A re-inspection fee will be assessed if the corrections are not completed.

  • All work to be inspected must not be covered or concealed
  • Areas to be inspected shall have adequate lighting

  • A safe path of travel shall be provided throughout the inspection site. Crawl spaces must be dry, free of obstruction (e.g., insects, rodents, etc.) and deemed safe by the inspector.
All electrical panels and junction boxes to be inspected shall be open and accessible for inspection. Inspectors will not open boxes or take apart electrical equipment.

SMUD AND PG&E SAFETY INSPECTION REQUESTS

A Safety Inspection request record is required before scheduling an SMUD and/or PG&E Safety Inspection.

Safety Inspections allow the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and the Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) service technicians to reconnect and energize gas or electrical services. If services have been disconnected at a property for an extended period, SMUD and PG&E may require that the existing, currently inactive, electrical or gas systems be inspected for code compliance prior to restoration.

If city inspectors are unable to access the property to perform this inspection - including access to the interior - a new safety inspection request must be obtained. If the safety inspection does not pass, a separate building permit will be required before repair work can begin and additional inspection scheduled.
