Sacramento is home to thousands of small- to mid-sized businesses, and the City of Sacramento Economic Development Department wants to ensure that these businesses continue to thrive. Small businesses are essential to the local economy because they are innovative, flexible, and strongly tied to the community.
Small businesses are critical to the local, state and national economy. In fact, America’s 25 million small businesses employ more than 50 percent of the private workforce, generate more than half of the nation’s gross domestic product, and are the principal sources of new jobs in the U.S. economy. Locally, more than 80 percent of Sacramento’s 25,000 plus business establishments have less than 50 employees.
