recruitment status

The City of Sacramento is using the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) statewide list to fill vacant Fire Recruit positions. If you are interested in the Fire Recruit position in the Sacramento Fire Department, please review the information about the Written Test and the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).

FCTC is a one-stop resource for Firefighter candidates:

  • Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) – A timed pass/fail test with eight separate events designed to simulate the specific physical demands of firefighting. FCTC is the exclusive statewide CPAT provider for California.
  • Written Testing – A fully validated written general knowledge test, with questions and examples tailored to the profession. Designed to demonstrate your ability to process information and think critically.

Candidates that successfully complete their written and CPAT testing are eligible and will be placed on the FCTC statewide hiring list. Contracting departments, such as the Sacramento Fire Department, hire directly these lists.

TO GET STARTED: Sign up to set up your FCTC Account and register for the CPAT and/or an upcoming written test.

The next Fire Recruit Academy is tentatively scheduled to start in Spring 2018. After the 2018 Academy has been completed, the department will once again reevaluate its hiring needs. The Sacramento Fire Department only hires from the FCTC list (see above). When the department is ready to start the hiring process for the 2018 Academy, an email will be sent to those people that are active on the FCTC list that meet our minimum requirements.
