Information For Students

Thousand Strong isn’t just any student internship program

No matter your future plans and career dreams, whether you plan to pursue higher education or enter the workforce right away, a paid internship is a fantastic head start. All of our internships are paid, and we’ll match you up with the best possible fit in terms of project, location, and industry.

Enrollment Requirements

  • You may be eligible if you are a resident of the City of Sacramento or attend one of our partner high schools.
  • You must be enrolled in a high school and be on track for graduation or have received a high school diploma or equivalent certificate when you apply. 
  • Be at least 16 years old by the end of May 31, and under the age of 24 when you apply.

Locations will be shared via email with all accepted applicants.


Internship Requirements

We have very limited requirements to enter the program, but employers vary widely in their procedures and HR processes. Your ability to continue in the program after training will be dependent on some or all of the factors below.

  • You must complete 40 hours of required workforce development training as part of your internship
  • You must have a flexible work availability schedule during both the summer AND the school year.
    • Our work experience program may conflict with after school clubs and sports. 
  • If you are under 18, you must have the ability to obtain a work permit from your school. There are attendance and GPA requirements for work permits. 
    • Please check with your school counselor to understand if you will be eligible. 
  • You must be able to supply appropriated i-9 documents to the employer for employment verification. If you are unsure if you have the correct documents, please check the following list. (i-9 form here.)
    • We are offering alternative experiences to students who cannot supply i-9 documents. Please contact us for more details after you apply.
  • Some employers will have additional requirements like background checks and drug tests.
