Mayor Steinberg Hosts NYC Mayor de Blasio for Sacramento Visit

Mayors enjoy farm-to-fork meals, tour Sacramento and discuss immigration

Sacramento, Calif - Today Mayor Steinberg was pleased to welcome New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to Sacramento. Mayor Steinberg led Mayor de Blasio on a tour of Sacramento that included farm-to-fork meals from local restaurateurs, a walking tour of the revitalized K Street and a roundtable discussion on immigration with regional business leaders at the Golden 1 Center.

“It is always an honor to show off our city’s values, strengths and indomitable spirit” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “As mayors, it is important that we build bridges – not walls – with leaders from across the county so we can learn, collaborate, and move our cities forward together.”

The mayors’ day began with an incredible pot-luck style meal hosted by Region Restaurants, a group of local restaurateurs, that featured farm-to-fork dishes, local craft brewery and wine tastings. After concluding their meal, Mayor Steinberg led a tour from K Street to the arena, which included many of Sacramento’s most notable buildings such as the Weinstocks Buildings and the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, before wrapping up with a tour of the iconic Golden 1 Arena. Following the tour, the two mayors participated in a roundtable discussion on immigration with business leaders from across the Sacramento Region.

“Mayor Steinberg treated me to a truly Sacramento experience,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “From the incredible diversity, entrepreneurship, new arena and farm-to-fork passion, it was clear Sacramento’s pioneering spirit runs deep across this region and its influence is felt across the country.”

Mayor de Blasio and Mayor Steinberg will head to San Francisco to meet with Mayor Ed Lee to discuss economic development and homelessness tomorrow.
