Accessible Playgrounds

Shasta Park Accessible Playground

All Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment playgrounds are accessible.  Every park playground has either accessible engineered wood fiber playground surfacing, or poured-in-place rubber playground surfacing, or a combination of both surfaces.  Each City playground is unique and allows accessible by wheelchair access within the playground,  to access ground level play events, activity panels and/or independent play items, and swings.  Accessibility onto the play structure is accomplished by either ramps or require an individual to transfer out of their wheelchair onto the play structure by a transfer station.  Playgrounds are constructed to allow children and their caregivers to use the play equipment together. Adult supervision on the playground is recommended.  The following City parks have accessible playgrounds with poured-in-place rubber playground surfacing and may include access ramps onto the play structure, except as notes below.  Other unique accessible play equipment or park amenities are listed for each park, and each park has accessible drinking fountains and site furniture. Native American themed playground with a combination of poured in place rubber surfacing and accessible engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. Unique play equipment include a disc swing, a meandering tike track with activity panels and street signage. There is not a ramp onto the play structure, a transfer station is provided. The playground has a shade canopy, accessible drinking fountain and an adjacent covered picnic area.
   
McClatchy Park - Joyland Playground
3500 5th Avenue

Joyland amusement park themed with separate tot lot and 5-12-year-olds playgrounds with a combination of poured in place rubber surfacing and accessible engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. Unique play equipment includes a wooden roller coaster, circus tot structure, trolley, 2-car train, mountain lion, tortoise, bear cubs, and larger-than-life climbable popcorn and ice-cream cone, carousel horses. A swing area includes 2 belt, 3 tot and 2 ADA swing seats, a tire swing. The playground has a shade canopy over the tot lot and an adjacent covered picnic area, accessible drop shot court, a seasonal animal-themed water spray area spray and accessible drinking fountain and restrooms.
   
McKinley Park McKinley Park – McKinley Playground

McKinley Playground is a community-built playground with Sacramento history-themed separate tot lot and 5-12-year-olds playgrounds, with a combination of poured-in-place rubber surfacing and accessible engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. The unique play equipment is based on local Sacramento landmarks, such as the Alhambra Theater, Tower Bridge, a train, a river paddlewheel ship, and a trolley. The playground is fence enclosed, and has belt, tot, ADA, and disc swings, and is shaded by mature trees, and has an adjacent covered picnic area, accessible drinking fountain and restrooms, a duck pond, and two concrete lionfish sculptures.

Story book-themed, Swiss Family Robinson tot lot and Treasure Island 5-12-year-olds playgrounds with a combination poured in place rubber surfacing and accessible engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. Unique play equipment a pirate ship, life-sized climbable whale, treasure chest, and tiger, two large storybooks, 3 belt, a disk swing ADA swing seats, a tire swing, and spring riders. The playground has shade canopies and two adjacent large covered picnic areas, a seasonal water spray and accessible drinking fountain and restroom, and a reading Peter Rabbit concrete sculpture.
   
Southside Park Playground Southside Park - Universal Universe Playground

The theme of Southside Park's, "Universal Universe," playground is "the solar system." Unique play features, as well as colorful and textured pathways, are included in the design to create a sensory enriched accessible playground. Play elements include adventure play equipment with access ramps and handrails, tot lot of play equipment with access ramps and handrails, a merry-go-round, swings, spring riders, group rocking units, self-propelled spin play units, independent climbing apparatuses, and play units with sound features. Other brightly colored play features (with protective rubber surfacing) are in shapes of different planets; they, the decorative central seating area (with seat walls), and the concrete paving with colored sun pattern all add to the solar system theme.

This community built playground has a separate fence enclosed tot and  5-12 year old areas, with a combination poured in place rubber surfacing and accessible engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. There are tot, ADA, tire and belt swings. The playground has a multiple shade canopies and an adjacent large covered picnic areas, and an accessible restrooms.
