COVID-19

With the current and evolving COVID-19 situation, various Access Leisure Social Programs and events (that require participants to physically meet) are meeting on Zoom. There are many amazing virtual programs to choose from as well as walking groups, outdoor special events, and more.

TAI CHI & SEATED YOGA IN THE PARK

We will enjoy an hour of Tai Chi, Yoga, stretching, and breathing in the grassy area behind the Community Center (east of the parking lot/ building). Chairs will be provided. Bring your own water bottles, refills will be available.

PARENT AND CARE PROVIDER CHAMPION GROUP

Champion Group is back for fall 2021! Join us in September on Zoom (Thursday, September 16th, from 7:00pm – 8:00pm). We will be debriefing summer and diving into topics and needs for the fall. Purpose of the Champion Group: While we all navigate these challenging times; Access Leisure staff would like to provide time for parents, family members and care providers of Access Leisure participants to come together to discuss topics as needed. These sessions are meant to be an open discussion and a time to discuss any challenges you are having as well as a time for us to assist you in finding the resources you and your family may need to continue to be healthy at home. 

 

Book Club! (via Zoom)

$10.00 per person for full session (approximately 13 weeks). We will be reading the book, Hoot, by Carl Hiaasen. All reading abilities welcome! You do not need your own copy to participate. You are of course welcome to follow along in your own book. We are looking forward to another great Book Club on Zoom! Thursdays, from 4:00pm – 5:00pm beginning on September 23rd. In the last session, we will watch the movie version of the book together on Zoom.

September monthly Zoom fee = $25 per participant (this fee will give you access to ALL of the Zoom activities on the calendar). Thank you!

Fees will not be reduced if you sign up after September has started. However, you are welcome to join us any time during the month once you have registered. If $30 for the full month is challenging for you financially, please reach out to us. We will work with you to find a solution.

ART & WELLNESS

We will focus on a topic of self-care and learn together.
9/8 Topic: Sharing is caring (this sessino will include an at-home scavenger hunt!)
9/22 Topic: Fall is in the air!
Supplies: You will need paper and something to draw with (if you choose to follow along with the drawing of the day). If you have colored pencils, markers, crayons, or pastels at home – that would be fantastic. That way you can add in some fun colors. JOKES & POETRY

Thursday, September 9th
4:00pm – 5:00pmHave a joke or a poem to share? Be sure to email Heather at HKopf@cityofsacramento.org with your joke or poem for apporval no later than Wednesday, September 8th at 5:00pm. YOGA

This basic yoga session is great for all experience levels. You may participate while seated or standing. Mats are awesome too, but not required. See September Activities message above regarding online registration.

DANCE PARTY

Friday, September 24th  
5:00pm – 6:00pm

Join us for an hour of fun music as we get the weekend started! We’ll play a variety of dancing music for all to enjoy. This is a great event to “dress up” for if you would like. It’s Friday night, let’s dance! See September Activities message above regarding online registration.

Cinema at Home

Thursday, September 30th
6:00pm – 8:00pm

Feel free to bring along some tasty snacks… or dinner! Please plan to be “muted” for most of this activity. Our theme this month is… SPORTS! The movie selection will be announced the day of the event. See September Activities message above regarding online registration.

A Few Reminders:

  • For those adults who have been registering for programs over the phone, I will be making calls directly to you this week and early next week (prior to September activities).
  • If you would like to register for programs in person, you are welcome to do so on Wednesday, September 1st from 8:30am-10:00am at the Belle Cooledge Community Center. Staff will be there to assist, and masks are required. 5699 S. Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA 95822.
  • As we continue through fire season, please note that our department either cancels outdoor activities or moves them inside (when possible) when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is above 150. Please keep this in mind as you sign up for outdoor activities.
  • Most of our City staff continues to work remotely during this time. We will always return your emails and calls as quickly as we can, thank you!

Hello Families and Friends,

As we continue to navigate these difficult and ever-changing times, we have made the following decision to postpone all League Bowling programs at this time. We know that this is a very tough and emotional time for all of us, and your health and well-being is foremost on our minds as we all navigate down this unprecedented path together.

All Bowling programs are cancelled at this time, WE HOPE TO RESUME LEAGUE PLAY NEXT YEAR.
