For over twenty years, the City of Sacramento has offered a highly successful recreation adult travel program. Enjoy site-seeing, shopping, dining and entertainment with us. Trips vary from affordable day trips to 10 day excursions. Transportation and accommodation fees are included in the trip cost.

Ironstone Vineyards

Murphys, CA in Calavaras County
Nestled against the Sierra Foothills, in the heart of California’s scenic Gold Rush Country, Ironstone Winery will delight you with the natural beauty and history of its surroundings, as well as the quality of its wines. Enjoy an exclusive tour of our facility, coupled with a private wine and canapé tasting, and finish of with a private grand luncheon in the Culinary Center/ Music Room.
The walking tour of the Ironstone facility, led by an experienced Ironstone staff member, includes: the Heritage Museum where the 44-pound crystalline gold nugget is on display; the outdoor amphitheater, site of our summer concert series; the beautiful Lakeside Park; the 400-foot long arbor and covered bridge; the Wine Caves and Breezeway; the awesome Culinary Center where our demo kitchen is located; and the Music Room housing the Alhambra Theatre Organ. Enjoy free time afterward to visit the gift shop, the wine shop, pan for gold or just sit among the beautiful flowers.

Academy of Sciences

The Academy of Sciences, is housed in a building which has won awards for its environmentally friendly features. It is located in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, and is the only place on Earth to house an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and living rainforest under one roof. Features: Methuselah, the oldest-living aquarium fish in the world; Claude, an albino alligator, African penguins, a coral reef filled with fish and giant rays, 3 types of sharks, a living four-story rainforest filled with free-flying tropical butterflies and birds, Morrison Planetarium with one of the world’s largest all-digital domes, Kimball Natural History Museum with 12 stunning dioramas from the Academy's original African Hall and (in addition to the aquarium’s live sharks) the newest exhibit – “Sharks,” which is “a fin-ematic experience” that takes you on a virtual dive (https://www.calacademy.org/exhibits/sharks).

San Francisco - Pier 39

Bring your friends and escape to the coast for a refreshing day on the Bay. Pier 39 is home to the Aquarium of the Bay, housing over 24,000 native marine animals. Walk thru the underwater viewing tunnel to see sharks and sh. Watch the graceful jellies swim, delight in the river otters as they play. Stroll at your leisure with docents always close by to answer any of your questions. View the bright orange Garibaldi fish that are designated California State Marine Fish. Explore the galleries that highlight the residents of the Bay - both the shallower waters and the deep. You can spend as much time as you like in each part of the Aquarium - you will have a ticket, allowing you to leave and reenter the aquarium, and a voucher with a list of Pier 39 restaurants to chose from, so you may dine at your leisure.

Angel Island

Known as the “Jewel of San Francisco Bay”, Angel Island State Park is alive with history. The Island was a Miwok Indian shing village, a cattle ranch, a US Army post during the Civil War, then the “Ellis Island of the West”. Thousands of immigrants from China were processed through its gates until 1940. On this trip, we’ll explore the island from the comfort of a tram tour with breathtaking views of the Bay, San Francisco, Skyline, Sausalito, Tiburon, and the Golden Gate Bridge. A history of Angel Island will play over an audio system while you are enjoying your tour. A box lunch is included at the café and the ferry ride between Angel Island and Tiburon. Come enjoy a beautiful Summer day on the Bay!

Red & White Fleet – Bridge 2 Bridge Cruise

This San Francisco Bridge to Bridge tour gives you the opportunity to learn about San Francisco’s unique natural history, architecture, Native American culture, the construction of both bridges, the geology of San Francisco Bay, and the city’s earthquakes.

Celebrate Autumn - Apple Ridge Farms

Visit and dine at Apple Ridge Farm! Enjoy fresh picked apples in their Apple Barn, shop in a boutique with holiday handmade goods and craft items, and stroll along a scenic nature trail around the farm. Take home frozen pies and pastries, handmade kettle corn, fudge, and apple cider. You can walk the pumpkin patch to nd a pumpkin to take and paint for Halloween. Lots of things to do and see as Autumn fills the air. And be sure to check to see if the thousands of Zinnias are blooming and calling to the butterflies!

Enter the world of Charles Dickens' Victorian London and discover the heart of the holidays! You are invited to join the dance, mingle with over 750 joyous performers, and revel in hearty food and drink at this year’s fair. A Bay Area tradition since 1970, come wander the lanes of Victorian London, as the glow of twilight settles on the city, with the scent of pine boughs and freshly baked scones floating in the air and the sound of carolers and holiday merrymakers accompanying your stroll. Discover the characters of Dickens London such as Marley, Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and Oliver to name just a few. So come along and enjoy a fascinating trip to Victorian London (Located indoors at the Cow Palace in Daly City, just south of San Francisco).

Remember to peek inside the Westin at Union Square to see what amazing gingerbread house they have designed for this year.
