Assistance, Referrals, and More (A.R.M.S.)

Do you need help navigating the maze of services and programs for older adults? Do you have a question or issue but don’t know where to begin? Our ARMS Coordinator is here to help!  Areas of assistance include: referrals to community resources to help with your needs, form completion, making calls to social service agencies, linking to housing, health, and legal services, and more. Please call the front desk at (916) 808-1448 to schedule a telephone or in-person appointment.  Free!

HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program)

HICAP is a non-profit organization designed to provide unbiased service to help seniors and the disabled decide what is best for their individual health care needs. In these one-on-one appointments, you can receive assistance with Medicare benefits and rights, appeals and denials, supplemental plans, government assistance plans, Part D Prescription Drug Program and other health insurance information.  They serve current Medicare beneficiaries, persons about to become eligible for Medicare benefits, persons planning for retirement, older persons planning to purchase health insurance and persons interested in future costs related to healthcare. Hart's Healthy Pantry Food ItemsHART’S HEALTHY PANTRY (ON HIATUS)

Through a partnership with Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, the Hart Center offers a monthly food distribution program called Hart’s Healthy Pantry. This service is offered the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 12-12:45pm. To participate, you must be aged 60 or older, complete an application which is good for 1 year of service and meet monthly household income eligibility (example: maximum monthly income per household of one is $1,354.). Each participant will receive a pre-packed box of groceries that include foods such as milk, cereal grains, cheese, juice, canned meat, peanut butter, canned fruits & vegetables. 1-2 bags containing fresh vegetables and fruit. Photo identification is required at the time of applying and bringing a small wheeled cart is strongly recommended. There will be no storage of items in the building, so please plan ahead. Limited quantities available - to receive groceries, you must fill out an application in advance by visiting or calling the front desk to schedule an appointment with our Outreach Coordinator at (916) 808-1457. SOCIAL SECURITY QUESTIONS Answered (on hiatus until further notice)

An advocate from Social Security will answer your questions & concerns on: Social Security, including Retirement, Disability and Survivors benefits, Supplemental Security Income (S.S.I.) and general information about Social Security. If you would like to discuss your potential monthly benefits, please visit www.socialsecurity.gov and create a mySocialSecurity account. Every 3rd Thursday of the month by appointment only. To make an appointment, please visit or call the front desk.

Triple-R Adult Day Program

For people with memory loss, Triple-R is the perfect place to find fun, no matter where you are in life.  Every day dozens of older men and women gather to enjoy each other’s company, dance to their favorite song and have fun in a safe environment. This program specializes in dealing with participants who have moderate to severe dementia, and is especially adept at accommodating wandering and addressing the care needs of a most personal nature.  For more information on the Hart Center Triple-R site, please call Chantell Albers at 916-808-8375. Free Tax Assistance with AARP and VITA

Each year, the Ethel Hart Center serves as a free tax preparation site. Certified AARP volunteers prepare taxes for hundreds of local seniors age 60+ during the week and the Franchise Tax Board (VITA) is here on Saturdays to assist people of any age. Both can prepare basic income tax returns for individuals and couples filing jointly that have low-to-moderate income. Appointments are first come, first serve and typically begin in February and last through April 15th. (Electronic filing only) Free!

BROWN BAG PHARMACY (ON HIATUS)

Know your medications and be aware of possible interactions! Gather your current prescriptions (the brown bag is optional) and bring them in to discuss the effects with a pharmacist from Pucci’s Pharmacy. Please call (916) 808-5462 or visit the Hart Center reception desk for an appointment. Free! 

FLU CLINICS

Sacramento County holds immunization clinics annually at the Hart Senior Center.  Call or visit the reception desk during flu season to check on dates and times this service is available.
