MEET Lieutenant Doug Morse

Office of Operations – North Command 

Lieutenant Doug Morse began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2003. He is currently a Watch Commander with our North Command. He has previously worked as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, POP Officer, Crime Suppression Unit, Public Information Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Outreach and Engagement/Recruiting, and Marijuana Compliance Team.

Doug served with the U.S. Coast Guard as an Electronics Technician (E-5; Petty Officer 2nd Class).

He graduated from Thomas A. Edison State College with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science and Technology in Electronics Engineering and from California State University, Long Beach, with a master’s degree in Emergency Services Administration.

Doug’s Community and Volunteer Service includes serving on Project Opening Day for Parkway Little League, Sacramento Youth Violence Prevention Collective (Health Education Council), and the Indian Lane Habitat for Humanity Project, where he coordinated a several-month project building homes on Indian Lane in South Sacramento.

Doug’s department awards include two Unit Citations and the Most Outstanding Recruit Award. 

Doug is proud to have led the department’s AED Project, which secured grant funding to deploy AEDs in patrol and various specialty units for the first time.

Doug was drawn to a career with SPD due to his desire to serve the community. He was encouraged by family members and friends in law enforcement.

Doug’s hometown is Santa Rosa, CA. His wife is a Lieutenant with SacPD, and they have two young boys. His hobbies are coaching youth baseball, camping, fishing, and biking.
