Ethan Hanson

MEET Captain Ethan Hanson

Office of the Chief - Special Services Division

Captain Ethan Hanson began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2006 as a Student Trainee. He currently serves as the Special Services Division Captain in the Office of the Chief. Ethan previously led the Central Command in the Office of Operations, and has held assignments in Patrol District One, Regional Transit, North Gang Enforcement Team, Patrol Sergeant for Districts Four and Five, Crime Analysis, Late Shift Watch Commander, Special Ops – Metro, and the Personnel Services Division.

Ethan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, and a Master of Science degree in Business Leadership. He attended the Sherman Block Leadership Institute. He is the recipient of three Unit Citations.

Ethan is proud to have assisted with the Law Enforcement Educational Pamphlets for the Black Child Legacy Campaign, which concluded in early 2018.

Ethan was drawn to a career in law enforcement because, as a child, his family was friends with a Captain in their local police department. He liked his even-keeled, helpful personality. Since he knew Ethan during his formative years as a child, pre-teen, and teen, on more than a few occasions he saw him make normal childhood mistakes. He was always very polite, encouraging, and yet stern when needed. Ethan admired the fact that he was able to lead him and others, while still being patient and forgiving. He was the first reason Ethan wanted to be a police officer. As he grew up, he realized he wanted to participate in a job that not only provided a service to the community but also allowed for new and exciting work every single day. With that in mind, he selected SPD because of the multiple career paths available, the size and diversity of the city, and the fact that he had a chance to be a contributing member in the state capitol of California.
