MEET Captain James Harrington

Office of Operations – Public Safety Communications Division

Captain James Harrington began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2002. He currently serves as Captain of the Support Services Division. He has also been the Day Shift Watch Commander for our South Command, and he has worked as a Detective, in Crime Scene Investigations, Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, and as a member of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.

James is a U.S. Army Veteran and has also served as an adjunct professor of Emergency Services Management. He is a graduate of Boston University with a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. He has completed Senior Management for Police-by-Police Executive Research Forum and holds a POST Management Certificate.

James was drawn to a career with the Sacramento Police Department to serve his community and keep people safe, including his own family here in his hometown.
