MEET Lieutenant Jason Start

Office of Operations – Central Command 

Lieutenant Jason Start is currently assigned to Central Command where he manages Special Events. He previously served as the lieutenant in Investigative Services where he managed the Forensic Investigations Division, Property Division, Auto Theft, Real Time Crime Center and Neighborhood Crimes Unit. Jason began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2006. He worked at the Benicia Police Department prior to joining SPD.

Jason’s previous assignments include Watch Commander, Detective Sergeant, Post Release Community Supervision Team Sergeant, Detective, and K-9 Handler.

He holds a Bachelor of Science and Associate degrees in Criminal Justice Administration.  

Jason’s interest in law enforcement came from having several family members in law enforcement. He enjoys working at the Sacramento Police Department for its variety of assignments, size of the agency, and opportunities.  

Jason is a long time Sacramento resident and enjoys home improvement and working on classic cars in his spare time.
